Drug de-Addiction Program What is substance abuse?

It is very important to understand what is a substance or drug abuse. People specially youth first try drugs for many reasons. Some experiment with drugs out of curiosity, or because friends are doing it or some use to improve physical performance in sports or ease another problem, such as stress, anxiety, or depression.

When these experiments with drugs start causing problem in an individual's life, whether at school, study, work, home or in relationships, the person is likely to have a drug abuse or addiction problem, according to health experts.

Health experts say that there are a number of factors such as genes, mental health, family and social environment that play a role in addiction.

Health experts say an individual is more prone to addiction if there is :

  • Family history of addiction
  • Abuse, neglect, or other traumatic experiences in childhood
  • Mental disorders such as depression and anxiety
  • Early use of drugs

How Drugs Impact Health

Physicians say that taking a recreational drug causes a surge in levels of dopamine in the brain, which trigger feelings of pleasure. The brain remembers these feelings and wants them repeated. Changes in the brain interfere with the ability to think clearly, exercise good judgment, control behaviour, and feel normal without drugs.

There are a number of signs and symptoms like neglect of responsibilities at school, work or home; problems in relationships; loss of appetite; Deterioration of physical appearance, personal grooming habits and other which suggest drug abuse

What the NGO doing against Drug Abuse?

Help Social Organization (HSO) for the last many years has been running a campaign against substance or drug abuse. We organize awareness campaigns in rural areas.

We also organize group counselling for drug dependents. On every World Tobacco Day on May 31 we aim to free at least 20 people from the clutches of addiction. Through counselling, physical training along with meditation the HSO is taking forward its fight against the drug menace.

We have testimonials of hundreds of persons who quitted drugs after our counselling. We wish to spread this campaign to each and every corner so that each person could be benefitted. We think that by changing one personality we can change the fate of one family – thus building the essence of humanity.

You can contribute funds to support these campaigns. We plan to set up a rehabilitation centre in Shimla where we wish to cure poor drug addicts free of cost.

Aabhas is a Project Being Run Under Drug Abuse For Addicted People that we can help them to get rid of the addiction.
